Hyundai Engineering wins $91m hydroelectric plant order in RI

Hyundai Engineering Co., one of South Korea's leading builders, said Monday that it won a US$91.3 million hydroelectric power plant contract in Indonesia.
The company said in a statement that the engineering, procurement and construction contract reached with Rajamandala Electric Power is for building a 47-megawatt facility near the city of Bandung, West Java Province.
The new Rajamandala power plant aims to provide electricity to Jakarta and surrounding areas.
"Hyundai Engineering will be in charge of all facets of the project that include a water tunnel and the setting up of power cables," the builder said in a press release. Work on the project is expected to be completed around March 2017.
Besides the latest deal, the company built a 20.6-megawatt combined cycle power plant in the Batam region of the Southeast Asian country in 2010, and is working on the expansion of a gas turbine power plant in the same area.
Hyundai Engineering said that with the latest contract under its belt, more effort will be made to secure other building orders down the line.
Indonesia has said it wants to upgrade infrastructure around the capital city by 2030, which is fueling demand for more power.
