South Korea?s Hyundai Engineering & Construction plans to develop a hydro power plant project in North Kalimantan Province with capacity of up to 300 MW.

The company signed a Mou with the North Kalimantan administration last week for the planned project, which will take advantage of the local Sungai Mentarag River current. The MoU was signed by Hyundai Engineering?s Jakarta Representative Min Jong Suh and North Kalimantan Governor Irianto Lambrie.

Irianto said that Hyundai will start pre-feasibility study in September of this year for the planned project, and will then hold discussion with state-owned electricity firm PT PLN so that the project can be included in the latter?s electricity procurement business plan (or RUPTL). Hyundai hopes the hydro power plant can be realized in 2024.
