Ibrahim Risjad Nickel Pte Ltd (Ibris Nickel) will complete smelter construction in North Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, in 2016. The company is conducting the feasibility study and designing of the smelter.
"The production capacity is targeted at 400,000 tons of NPI (Nickel Pig Iron) a year and it needs a 8 million tons of nickel ore supply," Ibris Chief Operating Officer Agus Suhartono told Petromindo.com on Friday.
Agus also said the nickel ore will be provided from the same concession area to guarantee the supply. "We cannot rely on other companies for the supply because it may have different characteristic with the design of the smelter," he said.
In June, Ibris Nickel signed a memorandum of understanding with China's Yong-Xing Alloy Materials Technology Taizhou Co Ltd with regard to the construction of the NPI smelter in North Konawe, and that all of the smelter's output will be exported to China.
