Australian mining firm New Hope Corporation Limited (NHC) reported on Monday that its Indonesian coal terminal unit PT. Indonesia Bulk Terminal (IBT) handled 3.6 million tons of coal in August 2003-January 2004 period, relatively unchanged compared to previous year?s corresponding period throughput.
NHC said IBT is evaluating stockpile and coal handling operations to enable an increasing proportion of third party coal throughput and had entered into handling agreements with several coal producers. Affiliated company South Kalimantan coal producer PT. Adaro Indonesia is thus far IBT?s largest client, handling around 6 millions tons of Adaro?s coal annually.
IBT is temporarily ceasing loading operations due to broken belt conveyor and had declared force majeure to its customers. The company?s operations are expected to resume later this week. (alex)
