South Kalimantan coal terminal operator PT Indonesia Bulk Terminal (IBT) expected its unloading cranes operation would return to normal by mid May when repairing on one of the unloading grab crane was completed.

?We are still waiting for some spare parts from Australia and Germany and we have targeted all repairing works to be completed finish by mid May,? IBT?s official Lanang Purnomo told Petromindo.Com over the weekend.

IBT?s one of the two unloading grab cranes in the terminal broke down in December 2002, affecting the company?s throughput capacity. Despite the problem, Lanang said IBT?s 2003 throughput this year was planned at the same level as last year?s figure of around seven million tons of coal.

IBT, located on South Pulau Laut, lies on major domestic and international shipping routes. IBT has a stockyard capacity of 800,000 metric tons and is capable receiving 85,000 dead weight ton vessels.

According to Lanang, aside from IBT?s major client PT Adaro Indonesia, PT Arutmin Indonesia, PT Baramulti, PT Multi Harapan Utama, and others small-scale miners used its services last year. (robert)
