South Kalimantan coal terminal operator PT. Indonesia Bulk terminal (IBT) expects its throughput for this year to reach 10 million tones, or higher than last year’s throughput of 9.6 (MT).
Terminal Manager Wan Yazid told Petromindo.Com on a sideline of Coaltrans Conference in Bali on Monday that for the first 5 months of this year, the company has handled 5 million tones of coal, shipped to its clients’ customers mostly to Japan and Europe.
Yazid said 80 percent of the coal handled in IBT originated from its affiliated company coal miner PT.Adaro Indonesia with the rest came from smaller coal miners such as Marunda Graha Mineral and IBT’s related company coal trading activity.
Yazid said the terminal, which is located in Pulau Laut has capacity to handle 12 million tones of coal per year and could be expanded rapidly as the terminal still has adequate spare land for stockpile and ample room for jetty expansion.
“We are expecting increase in coal throughput for next year,” he said without giving specific number.
The terminal, poplularly known as Pulau Laut Coal Terminal, is the largest public coal facility in South East Asia, capable of servicing vessel of up to 80,000 DWT. It has 2x400,000 tonnes stockpile, that could store up to 8 different coal products and 2x3,000 TPH shiploaders.(alex)
