Indonesia Coal Mining Association (ICMA) has proposed six coal mining companies ? consisting of four ICMA members, two non-members -- to participate in the tender to supply coal for a power plant in Pakistan.
Supriatna Suhala, ICMA Executive Director, told Petromindo.com on Tuesday that the names of the companies were submitted to the Pakistani delegation during their recent visit to Jakarta for a pre-bid conference.
?They (the six companies) have submitted all required documents, detailing licenses, reserves, and track record as coal suppliers,? he said, but stopped short of unveiling the names of the six firms.
Supriatna explained that currently, in Pakistan is developing 2x660 MW of coal fired power plant which is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
?They are seeking for coal with CV of 5,600 or at least 5,000 at a volume of around 5 million tons per year,? he said.
Pakistan favors long term contract, sustainability of supply and, the most important thing, volume, while the price it will be reviewed based on prevailing coal market condition, Supriatna explained.
Supriatna revealed to follow up the Pakistani delegation?s visit, ICMA will send a delegation along with several coal businessmen to Pakistan, scheduled for March or April.
?The Indonesia Ambassador in Pakistan will also be invited. According our ambassador, demand for coal in Pakistan does not only come from power sector but also cement industry. This is a good opportunity amid market downturn,? he said adding demand in Pakistani cement industry is estimated at around 2 million tons per year.
Last week a pre-bid conference was arranged in Jakarta to procure coal for 1,320 MW government-owned Jamshoro Power Plant, funded by the World Bank and Islamic Development Bank. Iftikhar Aziz said that 3.5 million tons of 4,750 to 6,000 kcal/kg coal was needed from Indonesia annually for this plant alone for which 10 suppliers would be short-listed and a Coal Supply Agreement would be signed with them.
