Idemitsu seeks Indonesian coal mine

Japan resources firm Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd. is seeking to acuquire overseas coal mines in overseas including Indonesia, the company?s official told Petromindo.Com recently.

The company said that it prefers to acquire coal mines in Kalimantan to Sumatra's because of coal infrastructure in Kalimantan better than Sumatra, the official said, adding that the mine should be capable to produce at least 5 million tonnes per annum of coal.

?We want a big mine,? the official said, without giving further details.

At the present, Idemitsu is importing around 700,000 tonnes of coal from Indonesia, through its trading unit. Around 50-70% of its coal requirement is supplied by state coal mining firm PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA) and the rest from Kalimantan coal miner PT Baramulti Group and from PT Dasa Eka Jasatama (DEJ) through global coal trader Noble Group.
