Illegal miners captured by the police

Two top illegal gold miners in the Kareng Pangi area in Central Kalimantan province were captured Friday by the local police, the Kapos daily reported.
This may be the start of a serious attempt by the local authority to tackle rampant illegal mining activity.
The paper said that the two illegal miners, who had also been acting as financier for other illegal miners, were captured because they had been mining outside the people's mining site area.
The paper added that the two had used heavy equipments outside the required specific.
Illegal gold mining had been rampant in Central Kalimantan province. Mining companies have long called on the authority to resolve the problem. (*)
