Illegal miners have returned to the mining site of gold mining giant PT Indo Muro Kencana (IMK) in the Murung Raya area in North Barito regency, Central Kalimantan.

The Banjarmasin Post daily reported that dozens of illegal miners had come to the mining site at night to steal stones containing gold.

The paper also said that the illegal miners had not been hesitant to attack the security personnel with sharp weapons if they were caught in their act of stealing the precious stones.

One policeman by the name of Sentot AD was hurt by the recent attack made by the illegal miners.

Thousands of illegal miners had been ousted from the IMK mining site two months ago. Police and military personnel are currently deployed to secure the vast gold mining area.(*)
