Illegal miners trapped at Antam?s Pongkor gold mine

As many as 12 illegal miners were trapped underground at IDX-listed PT Aneka Tambang Tbk?s (Antam) Pongkor gold mine in Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday, Kompas reported Wednesday.

Bogor Police Commissioner Imron Ermawan said that as of nine in the evening, the search and rescue team had yet to be able to evacuate the victims.

Antam spokesman Arif Armanto said that illegal miners had been digging pits at the Pongkor mine. A recent crack down on illegal mining activities in the area in September found 700 illegal mine pits. (*)
