Executive director of Indonesian Mining Association PL Coutrier said he was not opposed to the government's intention to review the contract of work held by copper and gold mining company PT Freeport Indonesia as long as it is not in conflict with the law.
"Why not? Please, as long as it (the review of the contract) is conducted in line with the terms agreed upon both parties and not in conflict with the law," Coutrier was quoted by Antara as saying on Tuesday.
The statement came following Minister of Mines and Energy Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono remarks indicating that the government might ask to review Freeport's contract if it was the only alternative to improve its operation.
"We still believe the government's repeated statement that it would honor (all) contract of works. Thus, we let the government think how to review the contract," Coutrier said. (*)
