Inalum, Alumindo to build aluminum slab plant

IDX-listed aluminum sheets maker PT Alumindo Light Metal Industri Tbk signed on Wednesday MoU with state-owned aluminum producer PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) for cooperation to develop an aluminum slab manufacturing facility in Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatra.
The MoU was signed by CEO of Alumindo, Alim Markus, and President Director of Inalum Winardi in Jakarta.
?The cooperation is for the development of aluminum slab plant in Kuala Tanjung. The aluminum supply will come from Inalum,? Alim said, adding that the new plant will provide raw material for Alumindo and meet demand of other industries.
Winardi said that the aluminum slab plant is expected to start operation in 2020 or 2021 with annual production capacity of 100,000 tons. He added that Inalum will own 60 percent stake in the plant, Alumindo 22 percent, and PT Parna Raya 18 percent.
