Inalum, Antam team up to build smelter

State owned aluminum prodder PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) has signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with IDX-listed general mining firm PT Aneka Tambang Tbk to build a smelter grade alumina refinery (SGAR) in Mempawah, West Kalimantan province.
The JV agreement is a follow-up to the Heads of Agreement signed by both firms last year.
Inalums President Director Winardi told Petromindo on Thursday that the JV, called PT Inalum Antam Alumina (IAA), will be 60 percent owned by Inalum, 40 percent by Antam. The JV will own 51 percent of the SGAR project, with the remaining interest owned by a Chinese firm.
