Inalum makes maiden shipment of aluminum billet

State-owned aluminum producer PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) has recently made its maiden shipment of aluminum billet from its facility in Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatra, to customers.
A ceremony to mark the first shipment of aluminum billet at a volume of 200 tons was held on June 23, Inalum said in a statement obtained late Monday. ?After the delivery of the diversified product today, we will ship more of diversified products to our loyal customers so that this year?s output target of 15,000 tons of billet and 45,000 tons of alloy can be reached,? said Inalum President Director Winardi in the statement.
Inalum started production of aluminum billet and alloy in May of this year at its Kuala Tanjung production facility as part of diversification strategy.
The facility has installed production capacity of 120,000 tons per year, comprising of 30,000 tpa of billet and 90,000 tpa of aluminum alloy. Inalum President Director Winardi Sunoto said last year that full capacity is targeted to be reached by 2020.
Inalum is the only aluminum producer in the country with production rate of 265,000 tons per year, compared to domestic demand of up to 1 million tons per year.
