State-owned aluminum producer PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) said it has recently obtained the required location permit and part of the in-principle permit from the Batu Bara regency administration in North Sumatra Province for its planned 2x350 MW coal-fired power plant project.

Inalum said in a statement that the power plant will provide additional power supply for its Kuala Tanjung aluminum plant complex as the company plans to expand production capacity.

The company said that while it continues to complete the entire required permits, it is also in the process of seeking partners for the power plant project including the EPC contractor and coal supplier.

Inalum President Director Winardi said in March that the new power plant is needed to support the company?s plan to double production capacity of its aluminum plant in Kuala Tanjung, Batu Bara Regency, from 250,000 tons per year to 500,000 tons in 2021. (*)
