North Sumatra-based aluminum producer PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) saw production as of April of this year has reached 86,000 tons, slightly higher than the 84,000 tons target.

This was said by Inalum President Director Winardi Sunoto as quoted by bisnis.com on Wednesday.

He added that price of aluminum has started to improve in April compared to the previous month, although it?s still lower compared to last year?s.

Winardi said that to help cope with the lingering weak market condition, the state-owned company will continue to cut production costs to help maintain margins. Last year, the company booked a net income of US$80 million. He said that this year, net income is targeted to grow by 10 percent.

The company sells about 85 percent of its output in the domestic market, with the remaining 15 percent for export. (*)
