State-owned aluminum producer PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) is still seeking for additional partner to help develope a planned 2x350 MW coal-fired power plant (PLTU) in North Sumatra, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Monday.

The paper quoted Inalum Corporate Secretary Ricky Gunawan as saying that the company is also still formulating the planned cooperation with IDX-listed coal giant PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), which will supply the required coal.

?We?re currently trying to formulate the most acceptable form of cooperation (with PTBA),? he said.

He added that the form of cooperation with PTBA, the partner for the development of the PLTU project, and the feasibility study are expected to be concluded next year.

As has been previously reported, the company plans to develop the power plant project to provide additional electricity supply for its Kuala Tanjung aluminum plant complex in North Sumatra as the company plans to expand production capacity.

Inalum President Director Winardi said in March that the new power plant is needed to support the company?s plan to double production capacity of its aluminum plant in Kuala Tanjung, Batu Bara Regency, from 250,000 tons per year to 500,000 tons in 2021. (*)
