Aluminum producer PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) is set to invest around US$60 million to expand the capacity of its Kuala Tanjung Port in Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra Province, ahead of planned expansion in production capacity, Antaranews reported.

?The expansion of the port is expected to start in the second semester of 2018,? said Inalum Director, Carry F. Mumbunan on Tuesday as quoted by Antara.

He said that Inalum plans to increase aluminum production to 500,000 tons in 2019 from 300,000 tons estimated for this year, and to double production capacity to 1 million tons per year in 2021.

Inalum currently operates two docks at Kuala Tanjung to facilitate the import of alumina raw material from Australia and other supporting materials from other countries. (*)
