Inalum to start alloy, billet production next year

State-owned aluminum company PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) plans to start production of aluminum alloy and billet next year as part of product diversification.

Inalum President Director Winardi Sunoto was quoted by Antara Tuesday as saying that alloy output next year is targeted at 2,000 tons, and billet 3,000 tons, out of the company?s projected total production of 244,000 tons.

He said that next year?s output will still be dominated by aluminum ingot. This year, ingot output is projected at 255,300 tons.

Winardi said that going forward, ingot production will be further reduced, while other downstream products will be increased.

Out of the projected total production of 500,000 tons, ingot output will only be around 180,000 tons, he said. ?Inalum will continue to diversify its output to obtain greater profit,? Winardi said.(*)
