Nickel mining company PT Inco is considering to purchase gas from Energy Equity to be used to generate electricity power for its nickel mining operation in Soroako area in South Sulawesi, according to a company source.
The source said that using gas would cost much less compared using fuel to generate electricity power, but the company was still assessing the possible risk of the change into gas.
He said that the discussion with Energy Equity started last year.
Energy Equity has been offering its gas resource in South Sulawesi to several companies in the province. Energy Equity has so far only been able to distribute around 20 percent of its gas reserves.
Sources also said that gold and nickel-mining firm PT Aneka Tambang was interested to purchase the gas but the company would still wait the negotiation result of Inco and Energy Equity. (R. Amoros)
