INCO Q1 earnings drops sharply

Canadian nickel miner Inco Limited said on Tuesday that operating earnings of its Indonesian subsidiary PT International Nickel Indonesia (INCO) during the first quarter of 2002 decreased sharply to US$ 5 million from $21 million in the previous year?s corresponding period.

The company said the drop was due to lower nickel price during the quarter. Production data was not available.

INCO operates a huge nickel mining and smelter in Soroako, South Sulawesi. (alex)
