The publicly-listed nickel PT International Nickel Indonesia Tbk said it will apply for the permission to use the land in the protected forest for mining purpose. But this will be done only after the ministry of forestry is issued a regulation in line with the Presidential Decree No. 41/2004, the Investor Daily Indonesia newspaper reported in its Saturday edition.
The management of the Inco said it will not issue a statement unless all the rules are clear.
?We will announce our stance only after the ministry of forestry is issued the regulation. We don?t want to issue a statement, which may lead to speculation, without knowing clearly all the things,? Inco?s senior supervisory government relations and public relations Rajeshanagara Sutedja told the Investor on Friday in Jakarta.
But Rajesh said if the ministry of forestry issues regulation obliging it to pay reclamation or reforestation funds, or hand over the land to the ministry of forestry, Inco as a company that respects the law will certainly implement those regulations. (*)
