Independent members of Energy Council named

After a lengthy process of fit and proper tests, the special committee of the House of Representatives has officially picked eight independent members of the National Energy Council.

The eight independent members were selected from about 16 candidates nominated from different fields including the industrial sector, technology, academic field and consumers.

The members are:

- Rinaldy Dalimi and Tumiran, both professors of electrical engineering at University of Indonesia and Gajah Mada University respectively and representing academic community;

- Eddie Widiono, chairman of a national team on energy saving, and energy analyst Herman Darnel Ibrahim, both representing energy industry;

- Widjajono Partowidagdo, representing technology engineering experts;

- Mukhtasor, representing environment experts;

- Agusman Effendi and Herman Agustiawan, representing energy consumers.

The council was established recently as part of the implementation of the Energy Law of 2007 which among others called for the establishment of a national energy council to help formulate the country?s long term energy policy.

The board will be chaired by the President, and will have 15 members, including seven ministers. (godang)
