East Kalimantan coal mining company PT Indexim Coalindo is currently exploring geothermal opportunities in Indonesia.
A senior official at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources told Petromindo.com on Tuesday that the coal mining company is currently assessing several geothermal working areas (WKP) that were announced during the most recent market sounding in April.
“They are currently studying Telaga Ranu, Danau Ranau, and Gunung Endut,” the source said.

The source added that in addition to those three WKPs, Indexim is also looking into geothermal potential for Preliminary Survey and Assignment Area (WPSPE).
“They already have a geothermal expert and are building a team under their subsidiary, Nikel Prima Gemilang,” the source concluded.
Indexim operates coal mines in East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan Province, covering a combined area of 25,000 hectares, and produces coal with a calorific value of 4,200 kcal/kg.
