East Kalimantan-based coal mining company PT Indexim Coalindo, part of the Gajah Tunggal Group, has withdrawn from the tender process for the Kadidia geothermal working area (PSPE) located in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi.

“They were actually registered as a bidder for the PSPE Kadidia. However, Indexim has decided to withdraw from the tender process,” a senior government official told Petromindo.com on Tuesday.

According to the official, the withdrawal was primarily due to forestry-related issues. The main geothermal prospect in the Kadidia block lies within the Lore Lindu National Park, creating significant challenges in obtaining exploration permits.

The Kadidia geothermal working area is estimated to have a development potential of around 40 megawatts (MW), with a projected investment value of approximately US$228 million.

“Indexim is currently shifting its focus to another ongoing geothermal tender running in parallel with Kadidia, namely the PSPE Bittuang,” the official added.

Indexim currently operates coal mines in East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan, covering a concession area of around 25,000 hectares. The company produces coal with a calorific value of 4,200 kcal/kg.
