India intends to build power plant in Sumatra

A number of Indian investors have expressed their keen interest to build a power plant in Sumatra to tap into the growing electricity demand in the country?s largest island, Investor Daily reported.

Basir Ahmed, the head of the Indian consulate general in Medan, said Indian investors, with their technology capability saw Sumata as an attractive investment destination for infrastructure especially power plants.

?We are interested in building power plants, and ready to compete with other investors,? he said during a visit in Padang, West Sumatra.

Basir said that a trade delegation from India was scheduled to visit Sumatra early next year to see themselves the investment potentials in the island.

Especially for West Sumatra, investors were still exploring the investment potentials in electricity or infrastructure,? he said after a meeting with the mayor of Padang. (*)
