India?s BHEL eyeing govt?s 10,000 MW power project

Indian major company Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) Limited will take part in the tender for the construction of power plants to be built under the government's the second 10,000 MW fast track power plant development program, Koran Tempo reported on Tuesday.

"We are ready to compete with Chinese firms to build 10,000 MW power plants," said BHEL's manager for international operations Sanjay Kumar Gupta in Jakarta on Monday.

Sanjay said that the company had the capability to build power plants with a capacity between 15,000 and 25,000 MW.

He said that BHEL which would be capable of completing the construction of a power plant within 24 months, with construction costs of about US$2 million per MW.

The government expects an additional power supply of 9,963 MW under the under the second fast track program. Of the total, 2,616 MW are expected to come from coal-fired power plants, 1,440 MW from gas-fired power plants, 4,733 MW from geothermal power plants and 1,174 MW from hydro power plants. (*)
