India?s Gupta seeks more Indonesia coal mine acquisitions

Gupta Coal (India) Limited, a coal business unit of Indian firm Gupta Group is planning more coal acquisition in Indonesia, the company?s CEO said last week.

Vikash Agarwalia told Petromindo.Com that the company is seeking to buy more coal mines in Indonesia especially in East Kalimantan. ?We prefer mines located in East Kalimantan than in other places,? he said.

The company, through its Indonesian firm PT Gupta Coal International currently has a coal mine in near Samarinda, East Kalimantan. The mine has produced 50,000 tonnes per month of thermal coal, he said.

He said that the company is also conducting coal trading activity, which this year plans to export around 6 million tonnes of coal to India, up compared to last year?s exports of 3 million tonnes.

Most of its coal imports is sourced from South Africa with some from Indonesia and Australia, he said without providing details. (denny)
