India?s Shapoorji Pallonji in talks to acquire coal mine in Indonesia

Seeks more coal mines for acquisition

India?s firm Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. Ltd (SPCL) is conducting due diligence to acquire two coal mines located respectively in Jambi and East Kalimantan to feed the power plant it is building in India, the company?s senior officer said.

Chief representative Vinod Sao told Petromindo.Com on Monday that the due diligence is expected to be finalized before year end or early next year, he said.

The company has thermal power plant project in Gujarat state of India with capacity of 2 x 1320 MW, with the first unit scheduled to be commissioned in 2014 and the second unit in 2015, he said.

The company is also seeking to acquire more coal mines in Indonesia, he said, adding that the company wants mines with coal reserve of minimum 200 million tons with moisture of less than 25 percent with calorific value of 5,200-5,500 kcal/kg.

Shapoorji Pallonji is the largest private shareholder (18.5%) of TATA SONS LIMITED, the Holding Company of the TATA Group. The Annual turnover of the TATA Group is over $15 billion.
