India?s Welspun starts coal production in Sumatra mine

India's fastest growing conglomerates Welspun Group has started coal production at its Jambi mine in February this year with initial output of 60,000 tonnes per month, the company?s official told Petromindo.Com recently.
The Jambi mine, located in Sarolangun regency, is operated by the firm through Indonesia firm PT Batubara Energy Indonesia, the company?s official said, adding that Welspun has three IUP licenses in the area.
The mine has a reserve around 35 million tonnes with calorific value of 5,700 kcal/kg (ADB). All the coal is exported to India, the official said.
The company also plans to acquire more coal mine in Indonesia but so far, the company did not find a right one, the official added. (denny)
