Singapore based Jaldhi Overseas Pte. Ltd, a subsidiary of Indian based Bothra Group, recently stated it is in the process of setting up what possibly could become the solution for coal logistic in Jambi.

?We are planning to set up two land jetties along the Batanghari River, viable for tug and barge, self-propelled barge, as well as completing it with a floating crane at the anchorage point,? company director K. Siriam told Petromindo.com recently.

The company is currently in the process of acquiring the needed licenses to become a port operator.

According to Siriam, both jetties will be separated by a distance of about 200 kilometers, in which the anchorage point will be located about 70 to 80 kilometers from the second jetty.

The company is prepared to self finance the project, allocating around US$20 million worth of capital.

?We are a privately held company, so not a big name. But Jambi is a prospective market because South and East Kalimantan, as well as South Sumatra are already crowded, while there will be a regulation in Jambi where miners will not be allowed to move the coal on trucks using provincial road anymore. So the opportunities are there,? he said.

Siriam added that each of both jetties should have the capability to handle 3 to 4 million tons of coal (throughput), with a ramp up possibility of up to 7 million tons.

He expects to have the facility already in operation at the end of the first semester nest year.
