IDX-listed cement maker PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa maintains its coal needs this year at 2 million tons as the firm has no plan to increase production amid weak demand.

Corporate Secretary Pigo Pramusakti said on Wednesday that although the company will start operation of its 14th plant this year, it would shut down one or two high-cost production facilities.

As such, the firm's coal requirement this year is expected to remain the same as last year's 2 million tons.

Indocement, which currently has installed production capacity of 20 million tons per year, uses coal as raw material and as fuel for its 50MW coal-fired power plant at production facility in South Kalimantan.
