Gold mining firm PT Indo Muro Kencana (IMK) has agreed to let part of its mining site in the North Barito regency, Central Kalimantan province, to become the people's mining area in a bid to end the occupation of its mining site and looting by local people and migrants.

Head of the South Kalimantan mining office Fatah Yoesoef said on Tuesday that a government decree on the transfer of the mining site would soon be issued.

"IMK has agreed to let part of its site to become the people's mining area, and has informed this to the director general of mining," Fatah said.

Local legislators have also said that a solution to the land occupation of IMK's mining site was to provide a people's mining area or locally termed as WPR.
