The projects to be signed at the presence of Yudhoyono and Abe include the 600 MW Cirebon coal-fired power plant, 340 MW Sarulla geothermal power plant and 800 MW Paiton Unit 3-4 coal-fired power plant.
Secretary General of the Energy and Mineral Resources Waryono Karno said in Jakarta Friday that the construction of the Cirebon power plant would be carried out by Japan’s Marubeni led-consortium, the Paiton Unit 3-4 by Mitsui Corp. and the Sarulla geothermal power plant by Itochu Corporations.
According to Waryono, Abe will also witness the inauguration of four oil and gas and power projects.
The four projects to be inaugurated are the South Sumatra – West Java gas pipeline project (SSWJ), the 740 MW Cilegon combined cycled power plant, 2x100 MW Tarahan coal-fired power plant and the Senoro LNG plant.
The fourth projects worth of US$ 2.9 billion are funded by the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
SSWJ pipeline which is owned by state owned oil and gas company has started channeling gas to Banten and West Java, while the Senoro LNG plant project which is owned by Japanese firm and Indonesian firms PT Pertamina and PT Medco Energi International is still in negotiation phase .
Meanwhile, Cilegon combined cycled power plant started operation last year but has yet to run at full capacity due to shortage of gas supply and the Tarahan coal-fired power plant is now in trial phase. (godang)
