Indonesia and Chile on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding on LNG supply, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported Tuesday.

The Mou was signed in Santiago on the sideline of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit meeting

Under the MoU, Indonesia will supply up to 4 million tons of LNG per annum to Chile.

The daily quoted Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro as saying that the MoU was follow up of bilateral meeting of president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Chile president Ricardo Lagos during the APEC forum.

Purnomo went on to say that Indonesia would send marketing team to Chile to negotiate. He expressed optimism that Indonesia would be able to supply LNG to Chile at competitive price. ?Indonesia had clinched deal to supply LNG to US west coast, which is relatively the same distance,? said Purnomo.

In a bid to reduce gas dependency from its neighboring country, Chile is seeking for alternative natural gas supply after gas contract with Argentina will expire in 2008. (*)
