Indonesia, China agree to cooperate in coal gasification

The Association of Indonesian Coal Producers (APBI) and its Chinese counterpart have agreed to jointly promote and develop gasification technology for the future use of coal in both countries.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the use of gasification technology in the processing of coal was signed by APBI?s chairman Bob Kamandanu and the chairman of the China National Coal Association (CNCA) Wang Xianzheng in Jakarta on Monday.

Bob said that the cooperation would include exchanges of information and publication on coal researches on the use of clean technology especially gasification technology in both China and Indonesia.

He said that under the agreements, the two associations also agreed to support any forms of cooperation for the use of gasification technology for commercial purposes.

?With this agreement, we hope Chinese companies will use their clean technology to produce coal with more added value in Indonesia,? he said. (godang)
