The  Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming held talks with representatives of Amazon's Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite business to facilitate coordination for the deployment of satellite services in the country.

Vice Minister of Investment and Downstreaming and Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Todotua Pasaribu, met Amazon LEO representatives on June 26 to discuss measures to accelerate implementation of low Earth orbit satellite services and related investments.

The ministry said the meeting focused on strengthening coordination among relevant stakeholders to support the rollout of satellite based connectivity, digital infrastructure development and investment in Indonesia's digital economy.

The discussions form part of the government's efforts to improve digital connectivity, particularly in underserved and remote areas, while supporting the country's broader digital transformation agenda.

Amazon's LEO satellite initiative, known as Project Kuiper, aims to deploy a constellation of more than 3,200 low Earth orbit satellites to provide high speed broadband internet services globally. The company has begun launching satellites and is preparing for commercial service rollout in selected markets.

Indonesia has sought to attract investment in satellite communications to complement terrestrial broadband infrastructure and expand internet access across the archipelago, where geographic conditions make nationwide fiber deployment challenging.
