Indonesia is exploring the possibility of selling its liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the neighboring Philippines, which is currently seeking LNG supply for the country's power plants, Investor Daily reported on Wednesday.

Director for Processing and Commercial of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ery Soedarmo said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the Philippines had been in negotiation with world's major LNG producers including Indonesia, Malaysia and Qatar to fulfill its LNG needs.

There was a discussion between the Philippines and Indonesia about the possibility of supplying the neighboring country with LNG from the Donggi gas field in Sulawesi, Ery said, adding that Pertamina and Metro Manila had signed a memorandum of understanding on the LNG supply.

According to Ery, the Philippines are seeking LNG supply to reduce the use of coal in the country's power plants. (*)
