Indonesia invited to develop gas resource in Bangladesh

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khalede Zia has officially invited state owned oil and gas company Pertamina to explore gas reserves in the country which is believed to reach over 60 trillion cubic feet.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said he received the offer during his courtesy call to the Bangladeshi Prime Minister on Thursday. Purnomo is part of President Megawati Sukarnoputri?s delegation in her current Asian tour which would also include Mongolia, Japan and Vietnam.

?In fact, US Secretary of State Collin Powel was also in Bangladesh today to talk possible cooperation in gas development. But the Bangladeshi Prime Minister offered the chance to Indonesia,? Purnomo said.

The minister said that the offer from the Bangladeshi government would be seriously discussed after the 10-day tour. (*)
