Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Widjajono Partowidagdo said his ministry mulls a plan to sell electricity to Singapore. The purpose of the plan is to reduce export of gas to the neighboring country.
?Singapore still needs gas to meet the needs of its industries. However, if it needs gas for power plants, we can just send electricity,? he told reporters at the weekend.
To realize the plan, Indonesia might build gas power plant in Batam with a capacity of 4,000 MW. About 3000 MW of the electricity output will be sent to Singapore and the balance is supplied for domestic electricity needs.
Widjajono expects to materialize the plan at the earliest in 2014. (*)
