Indonesia needs $97b to build 55,000 MW of power plants in 10 years

Indonesia will need investment of US$ 97 billion investment in electricity sector the next 10 years to achieve average electricity growth rate of 9.2 percent per year, a senior official with state electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) said on Tuesday.
Director Nasri Sebayang said in a conference in Jakarta that the country will need new addition of 5,500-MW power plant per year over the next 10 years, including 3,600-MW per year in Java and Bali islands.
Nasri said IPPs are expected to contribute some of the new capacity needed. (denny)
