Indonesia will need at least 73 additional bulk carriers of handymax type to carry Indonesian coal to export market, an association official said.

Ibno Wibowo, an executive of Indonesian Shipowners Association (INSA), said in Jakarta on Thursday that under the domestic transporter obligation (DTO), at least 30 percent of coal exports should be transported by national ships.

?It means that if the DTO is implemented, Indonesia will need additional 73 handymax vessels to support the program,? he said.

Indonesia is expected to produce a total of 320 million tons of coal this year.(*)
