The Governments of Indonesia and Norway have signed an agreement to cooperate in developing Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology.
The info was given by acting Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources IGN Wiratmadja on Thursday. He however did not specify who signed the agreement, nor when it was signed.
Wiratmadja said Norway has been implementing EOR technology for 20 years and has been able to raise its production by 60 percent as a result.
In Indonesia, the technology has been most successfully applied by Chevron Pacific Indonesia at its Duri and Minas fields in Riau. The firm applied steamflood technology. Meanwhile, Norway applies surfactant, gas and water injection in its EOR technology, he said.
Indonesia and Norway will cooperate in applying EOR technology in pilot projects and Production Sharing Contracts are also expected to participate through a B-to-B mechanism, he said.
