Electricity company PT Indonesia Power has failed to complete plans to develop a combined-cycle power plant in Pemaron area, in the resort island of Bali, due to protest from local people fearing negative impact on tourism and the environment, the Bisnis Indonesia daily reported Thursday.
The paper quoted Indonesia Power market director Djuwarno as saying the 160 MW power project should have been realized in 2001.
He expected the local administration could persuade the people to support the project which is crucial to avoid power crisis in the famous resort island.(*)
