Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of the state-owned electricity company PLN, has to import around 2 million tons of coal from Australia after its domestic suppliers stop supply the company's coal needs, according to a source.
The source told Pertomindo.com that the company signed the contract earlier this year. The coal supply is for the Suralaya power-generating unit.
The source said that the domestic suppliers stop making the supply because the price was too low and the company often makes payment delay. PLN is currently under a serious financial trouble.
The source said that one of the supplier, the state-owned PT Tambang Bukit Asam Batubara, provide coal to Indonesia Power at Rp 200,000 per ton including the cost of transportation, while the price in the international market is between US$20-22 per ton (excluding transportation cost). $1=Rp 9,500.
