PT. Indonesia Power (IP), a wholly owned subsidiary of state electricity firm PLN said on Thursday it was in talks with Australian oil firm Santos to get more gas from Sampang PSC offshore East Java to its Grati combined cycle power plant, also in East Java.

“Santos is offering to sell gas from Wortel field to Grati, but the price Santos asked is much higher than previous gas contract of US$2.51 per MMBTU,” IP Director Achmad Sadikin said. He did not reveal the volume of gas Santos was offering.

IP will get gas supply of at least 60MMCFD from Santos’ Oyong gas field starting second half of 2008.

The Wortel field, which was discovered in 2006 is located around 7 kilometers from Oyong. An appraisal drilling to examine a full extend of the discovery would be conducted by year-end, said Cue Energy, a partner in Sampang PSC said last April.

Santos is the operator of Sampang PSC with 45 percent interest. (godang)
