PLN?s subsidiary Indonesia Power (IP) is looking to procure 300,000 - 1 million tonnes of spot coal this year to meet supply requirement of its 3,400-MW Suralaya power station in Banten province.

Suralaya General Manager Bambang Susianto told Petromindo.Com on Tuesday that IP has opened PQ bidding registration to procure 300,000 tonnes of spot coal for June 2007 delivery. ?Additional tenders would be opened if we see additional need or if term supplies could not match requirement,? he said.

Bambang said the coal IP would procure would have calorific value of around 5,100 Kcal/kg.

IP, which needs around 10 million tonnes of coal per year, get around 60 percent of its coal supply from state coal miner PT.Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA). PTBA President Sukrisno earlier told Petromindo.Com that PTBA will increase supply to IP to 6.1 million tonnes this year, up from 5.2 million tonnes last year due to better railway condition. IP also have term contract with several Kalimantan coal miners. (godang)
