Indonesia Power officiates Rooftop PLTS in Bali

Tuesday, February 25 2020 - 06:13 PM WIB

PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), has inaugurated the operation of its rooftop solar power generation (Rooftop PLTS), which were installed  on the roof of the office of its Bali Power Generation Unit with installed capacity of 226 kilo watt peak (kWp).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Director General for New, Renewable and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), F.X. Sutijastoto, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster, President Director of Indonesia Power  M. Ahsin Sidqi,  as well as directors and commissioners of IP.

The installation of the rooftop PLTS began in June 2019 by PT Indo Tenaga Hijau, a subsidiary of Indonesia Power.

The Rooftop PLTS is developed using the Photo Voltage (PV) module from Canadian Solar. This technology has the ability to reduce emissions generated by power generating units, which have been operated using gas or oil primary energy.

Rooftop PLTS at the Bali Power Generation were installed at two points, on the roof of a diesel gas power plant (PLTDG) which is capable of producing electric power of 136 kWp for Pesanggaran as well as on the rooftop of the Pemaron gas power plant (PLTG) with an installed capacity of 90 kWp.

Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster appreciates the development of Rooftop PLTS by IP and becomes a pioneer in Bali.  The two Rooftop PLTS are projected to reduce emissions by up to 39T CO2.

"I learned the local values given by the ancestors that Bali blends with nature, making it as one of the world's best tourism. The inauguration is a concrete manifestation that PLN and IP support the image of tourism in Bali, as quality tourism destination," I Wayan Koster said.

Director General for EBTKE, F.X. Sutijastoto express his hope that the installation of the rooftop PTLS by IP would inspire others to follow as part of efforts to apply green energy, especially Bali has been declared as center of excellence in the application of renewable energy.

The development and installation of the rooftop PLTS is a realization of the company's commitment to support the city of Bali as one of the leading regions in the development of clean energy, which is reflected in the Governor Regulation (Pergub) Number 45 of 2019 concerning Clean Energy.

The regulation also regulates the development of Green Buildings, buildings that have a balance between the production of energy and the use of energy (zero energy building).

One of the points contained in the regulation is that central and regional government buildings, as well as industrial, social and household commercial buildings with a floor area of more than 500 square meters are required to install a Solar Power Generation (PLTS) system, which has to be realized in the period of 2021 - 2024.
