The state-owned power company PT Indonesia Power has secured a deal to obtain some 2.4 million tons of coal per year from PT Bumi Dharma Kencana, the daily Bisnis Indonesia reported Thursday.

The paper said that the coal would be used to fill the need of the Suralaya Power plant.

The power plant needs some 11 million tons of coal per year, of which 7 million had been secured from the state-owned coal mining firm PT Bukit Asam Batubara.

Previously the power plan obtained the remaining 4 million tons of coal need from the spot market.

Bumi Dharma gets the coal from the Muara Asam-Asam and Sei Danau coal mining sites in South Kalimantan. The 700 ha site has some 35.265 million tons of coal reserves, while Sei Danau has 30.575 million tons of reserves.(*)
